Apple Offers to Replace iPhones With Battery Issues

Apple is offering to replace iPhone 5-S models that have battery problems.

Apple announced in a statement Tuesday, that a "very limited number" of iPhone 5-S devices have a manufacturing issue that can cause the battery to take longer to charge, or run down sooner.

A company spokeswoman says Apple will provide replacements to customers who bought phones with the problem batteries.

Apple did not say how many phones have been affected by the manufacturing issue, but the company is contacting customers by phone, suggesting the problem is not widespread. Apple sold 9 million new iPhones on launch weekend in late September.

The defect also does not affect the safety of the iPhone batteries.
