California is being sued for not keeping a closer eye on nursing homes and the people who live in them.
Claiming the state of California takes far too long to investigate complaints against nursing homes, a Sacramento-based group called Foundation Aiding the Elderly is suing.
Carole Herman is president of the foundation, and she tells the Sacramento Bee this is the only way to get the state's attention.
According to court documents, Herman's group is asking the judge to impose deadlines for inspecting nursing home complaints and enforce existing deadlines. The suit alleges the Department of Health take "months and sometimes years" to conduct investigations.
Herman cites personal experiences with the department as one of the reason for the suit.
