Longtime Northern California Congressman George Miller says his political career is over at the end of this year:
Representative Miller said four decades in Congress is enough.
"I've just been so honored that my constituents have given me those 40 years to be involved and engaged in public policy, and I'm very proud of my record," Miller said, speaking to KCBS.
Miller says he looks forward to one final year in Congress "fighting the good fight.''
Miller was first elected in 1974 and has been a leading Democratic party voice on education, labor and health care policy.
In a statement leaders of the Democratic Party of California say Miller will be missed in his district.
