Sacramento Zoo Mourns Loss of Eastern Bongo

The Sacramento Zoo is mourning the loss of one of its longtime residents.

Officials say Victoria, an 18-year-old Eastern Bongo, passed away during the night.

She arrived to the zoo in 1997 and gave birth to six calves.

One of those was introduced into Kenya as part of a reintroduction program for this critically endangered species.

The lifespan for Bongos is usually 10 to 18 years. There are fewer than 250 individuals left in the wild.
