San Jose officials are considering two plans to bill new police officers should they end up leaving the city.
Plan one would require any new police hires that leave San Jose within five-years to pay the city back for academy training costs.
Plan two would charge recruits upfront for their training.
Now if the rookies stay, academy expenses would ultimately be covered by the city. It costs up to 170-thousand-dollars to recruit and train each police officer. Of the 40 recent new hires, five have already left for other law enforcement agencies.
