Sacramento County Unified School District Superintendent Jonathan Raymond will announce his resignation at a 10:30 a.m. press conference on Thursday (October 17) at the Serna Center according to a press release sent out Wednesday afternoon. When reached for comment, the school district had no comment, but pointed to the press conference referred to in the press release.
Superintendent Raymond was appointed to his post in July 2009 and has served for four and half years as head of the 12th largest public K-12 district in California. Sacramento City Unified has approximately 43,000 students at 73 schools and is one of the largest employers in the Sacramento region. During his tenure with Sac City, Superintendent Raymond successfully implemented a number of initiatives that have improved the quality of education for children, including:
SCUSD Board of Education President Jeff Cuneo is also scheduled to speak at the press conference, which will be held upstairs in the Serna Center’s rotunda. The Serna Center is located at 5735 47th Ave.
