Senate Sends Budget Deal to Obama

Senate Sends Budget Deal to Obama

A two-year budget accord is awaiting President Barack Obama's signature after final passage by the Senate.

The Senate approved the two-year budget deal 64-36.

The House approved the deal last week. The accord heads off another partisan showdown when a temporary funding deal expires next month. Supporters say the budget deal doesn't raise taxes, eases steep sequester budget cuts and further reduces deficits.

All 55 members of the Democratic caucus were joined by nine Republicans to pass the deal in the Senate. And the bill is now headed to the desk of the president.

The passage of the budget deal was one of the last tasks expected from the Congress this year.

Congress will reconvene on Jan. 6 for the second session of the 113th Congress.
