A Sergeant at Arms for the State Senate has been terminated after an investigation into a shooting at his home and it wasn't the shooting itself that got him in trouble.
The shooting took place in December of 2012. Three people were injured, including the home owner, in an exchange of gunfire. Another person was killed.
The investigation into the alleged home invasion continues. However, it was revealed that at the time of the shooting, Lopez was under the influence of an illegal substance.
Those results were brought to Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg. When confronted, Lopez admitted to using the illegal substance. The Pro Tem's office released a statement today saying that the drug use is below the standards expected of a law enforcement officer in the Senate and that Lopez was terminated immediately.
