Should We Be Worried About a Gov't Shutdown?

Unless the House and Senate reach a compromise, a shutdown of the federal government for the second time during the Obama administration is possible.

What does that mean for many in Sacramento? Tourism could take a hit as National Parks will likely be closed. You can expect delays in obtaining passports or other federal documents.  And, most importantly, a delay in government checks, like Social Security, Veteran's administration or tax refunds since employees at processing centers will likely be furloughed.

All furloughed employees will not receive pay.

Essential services such as air traffic controllers, the military and border patrol will remain open -- they will be paid with federally issued IOUs. But non-essential operations, including some VA services, will closed and stay closed until the shutdown is over.
