UPDATE: Former West Sac Cop Guilty in Sexual Assaults of 5 Women

UPDATE:

A former West Sacramento police officer has been found guilty of sexually assaulting five women while he was on patrol.

The Sacramento Bee is reporting a Yolo County jury found Sergio Alvarez guilty today of 17 counts in his sex assault trial.

Alvarez, 38,  is facing life in prison for the kidnapping and sexual assaults of five women between 2011 and 2012 while he was on patrol on his overnight shift.

Prosecutors alleged Alvarez was a cop who targeted prostitutes and drug addicts.

A former West Sacramento police officer, on trial for 27 counts of rape, is still waiting on the jury after a day of some confusion in court.

Meanwhile, his estranged wife says she's staying clear of him.

The jury in the Sergio Alvarez trial was only able to reach a partial verdict Wednesday and was sent back to work by the judge.

Alvarez's estranged wife, Rachel, tells News10 she has moved with her children to Florida out of fear of husband.

"Me not standing behind him and me speaking to you the last time. Yeah, I'm a little nervous," she said.

She says she's received letters from Sergio Alvarez asking for forgiveness.

A verdict in his case could come today.
