California Chrome will attempt to make history Saturday when he runs the third leg of the Triple Crown at Belmont Park.
The racing world's eyes focus on the Belmont Stakes where California Chrome tries to become the first Triple Crown winner in 36 years.
Caryn Keller says the Coalinga foaled thoroughbred faces a pair of challenges in tomorrow's big race.
"He's had a very hard campaign from the Derby 'til now, that to me is number one. And number two is the distance," Keller said.
But Keller, who trained thoroughbreds locally for more than 20 years, says California Chrome is aware that something special is going on.
"They are very intuitive and they pick up on energy. And sure, there's a lot of excitement, there's a lot of crowds around him. And he's picking up on it and seems to enjoy it," Keller said.
She thinks that Chrome has handled everything well so far. And if he loses at Belmont Stakes it won't be because of fear or nervousness.
If you'd like to be part of the race-day excitement, Cal Expo is hosting a viewing party tomorrow that includes a gourmet breakfast, buffet lunch and reserved seating.
It's also the only location in our area where you can officially place wagers on the Belmont Stakes.
