Lauryn Hill thanks fans for support

Lauryn Hill is reaching out to fans for the first time since being released from prison.  The Grammy-winning singer exited a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut last Friday after serving three-months for tax evasion.

In a letter posted on her Tumblr account, Lauryn recognized all those who "wrote letters and sent packages and books."  Apparently, not a day went by that she didn't receive mail from fans.  Hill says the letters touched her while she was locked up and also confirmed her belief that "sincere expression has a serious purpose."  Lauryn signed her letter "in love and freedom."  Attached to the message was a lengthy list of names of people who offered Hill "words of encouragement and support."

Lauryn Hill still has to spend an additional three-months on house arrest.  However, she will get a break from her confinement to go on tour from November 15th to December 31st.  She will resume her home detention on New Year's Day.
